Cascade Carpet Salal (Gaultheria Shallon)

Description

Gaultheria shallon, commonly called salal, is a native British Columbia plant featuring leathery, evergreen, mid-green leaves on gracefully arching stems. Its spring blooms resemble small white bells, occasionally tinged with pink, followed by sweet, edible blue-black berries traditionally valued by First Nations communities. The ‘Cascade Carpet’ cultivar (‘Gaulsidh4’) is a compact variety growing 24–36 inches in height and spread. Ideal for woodland gardens, dry shade areas, or as a tall ground cover, it also provides durable greenery for floral arrangements.
